Yangon – 7 October 2020 Carlsberg Myanmar announced today that it has achieved yet another milestone of work safety by completing six years without Lost Time Accident (LTA) for its Bago brewery. As a company that sets highest standards for health, safety, and environment, this is not the first time Carlsberg Myanmar has received recognitions in this regard.

“We are extremely proud that our Bago brewery has been accident-free since the day we laid its foundation in 2013”, said Mr Vaibhav Khedkar, Supply Chain Director at Carlsberg Myanmar. “This achievement came from the determination, focus and hard work of each and every one of our team. And while we celebrate this milestone today, we are aware that our job isn’t done here. We will keep the safety-first mindset, constantly and consistently maintain our safety standards, and keep building on Carlsberg’s ZERO accidents culture”, added Khedkar.

An LTA refers to incidents that result in a disability or an employee missing work due to an accident. It is one of several metrics’ companies use to benchmark their HSE department. The lower this measurement, the greater the indication of safety performance is. 1 year without LTA is considered a good level of safety standard in the beer industry.

Carlsberg is fully committed to protecting the health and safety of its employees by pre-empting the potential risks of its operations and by providing a safe working environment. Training and equipping its people with best-in-class practices to stay safe while at work are key to building a ‘ZERO accidents culture’ at Carlsberg. The company has provided 14,543 hours of safety training to its staff so far.

Particularly, Carlsberg trains its team for risk assessment on the task they do daily. It also provides regular training on special topics such as slip trip fall, life-saving rules, safety on traffic, chemical handling, fire, electrical, risk assessment, contractor management, and behavior safety. The company continuously encourages its team to report the unsafe act and unsafe condition and continuously improves its standard by closing the gaps. Carlsberg also provides safety briefing whenever there are visitors at its brewery.

Carlsberg Myanmar has achieved many HSE milestones. It was named as The Best Improver in Carlsberg Asia in terms of HSE and celebrated 1000 days without LTA in 2017, which helped it receive a gold certificate for possessing the highest standard of health and safety by Carlsberg Group. The company completed its five years without LTA for the Bago brewery in 2019.

Located on the 54-acre site in the Nyaung Inn Village Industrial Zone in Bago, the Carlsberg facility brews two international premium brands – Carlsberg and Tuborg, as well as two local brands Yoma and Black Eagle. The brewery has 145 employees, including warehouse staff.

To-date, Carlsberg has invested over US$ 110 million in Myanmar. The company employs more than 750 people in the country, 99% of which are Myanmar nationals. Last year, Carlsberg contributed MMK 25.8 billion in taxes and has been regarded as a top taxpayer in the country in terms of Special Goods Tax and Commercial Tax. The company has also been nationally recognized as a leading employer with five of Myanmar’s best employer awards in 2019.
